Marshall Ave, Pittsburgh, PA- Waterline Project

Pre Construction Video
Municipal Water Line Project
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Today, we’re taking a look back at a Municipal Water Line Project ALL PRO USA completed on behalf of the general contractor, around this time last year. Our function in said Water Line Project, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was to document the pre-construction conditions of the specified road surfaces, sidewalks and driveways, as well as any personal property within the project’s path. The area of focus was in Marshall Township, a part of the Greater Pittsburgh statistical area, located just over 20 minutes north of downtown.

The majority of the work for this Water Line Project was completed using a camera mounted to a full-size SUV. Speed was kept at 10 mph or less for safety as well as to maximize the visual clarity and detail of the 4K video. Particular areas with more noticeable damage to the roads, sidewalks, driveways or personal property lines were shot at less than 5 mph for additional detail.

The team employed the proper video production equipment, with in-SUV operating capability, to capture all relevant footage and satisfy the specifications of the contractor. Additional footage was captured on foot by a member of the team to provide a better look at inaccessible points of interest, that were not as clear from the specified recording vehicle.  ALL PRO USA Construction Videographers use a two-person team comprised of a camera operator and separate driver for safety. The truck is clearly marked for construction documentation and has multiple safety lights and strobes. ALL PRO USA team members are all OSHA-10 certified and follow the universal mantra of Safety First.

As stated above, this particular project consisted of a handful of roads, sidewalks, and driveways as well as an intersection and residential properties within the specified survey area. Areas of concern captured in the pre-construction video were documented with the aid of in-camera narration and added text in the completed video. The Duo that was tasked with this project got the plans from the contractor prior to heading to the site and reviewed them accordingly. Since the project was scheduled for early May, weather patterns were extensively monitored to ensure the clearest possible footage. Often times the weather in Western, Pennsylvania in late Spring can be unpredictable, limiting the shooting window for any exterior video project. Particularly pre-construction, which requires an extreme attention to detail. We worked with the contractor to makes sure that the site was up to their and the engineers’ standards before commencing the shoot. In addition to this, we picked the best possible day(s) with the lowest risk of rainfall or other weather-related events that could obfuscate crucial details.

ALL PRO USA uses state of the art cameras and camera systems and has both the experience and knowledge to deliver the best possible video to our clients. Whether or not it’s specified by individual contractors, ALL PRO USA records audio narrations for all of our pre construction videos, with a quality mic system to ensure the successful documentation of the project area. As we are slowly driving on the roads, the camera operator will mention potholes, cracks or other noticeable aberrations.

Whether or not the use of drone footage is specified or possible in documenting a particular project, we have two FAA-certified drone camera pilots on staff, should it be needed to capture the requested details.

Once the documentation was completed and we made sure that the recordings were up to our standards, we called the project manager to inform them of the completion of the pre- construction video. During this call, as with all calls of this nature, we reviewed the captured footage and confirmed that we had gathered everything necessary for the contractor’s records. Sometimes, there can be late additions or add-ons that need to be documented for the project. There have been times when the PM at this point would mention for us to get a lay down yard or something similar that was not included in the original scope. The team is always happy to get additional areas and to do the best that we can for every contractor that we work with.

Once back at our editing studio we completed the project by checking the project info for accuracy of date of recording, direction of travel, project location and other important data. We then uploaded the completed videos and sent them to the Project Manager for approval. Once we had the final approval, we issued USB Drives containing copies of the completed videos.

ALL PRO USA takes great pride in our reputation and nothing makes us happier than receiving positive feedback and/or additional assignments from repeat customers. Construction Videography is a crucial component for our customers and owners and it is important to make sure it is done on time and done right. ALL PRO USA provides professional pre-construction video not only for the state of Pennsylvania, but anywhere on the East Coast, West Coast, and everywhere in-between.
