Overview of our Construction Video Documentation Services
Construction Video Documentation is the process of detailing a construction site using video to determine the existing conditions prior to the start of construction. Videos such as these prevent expensive and time consuming litigation from homeowners, businesses and local governments that may attempt to collect damages as a result of construction.
Cities, Counties and States often will require a contractor to enlist the services of an independent, experienced company that specializes in the field of Preconstruction Video Documentation prior to mobilization. Bid documents and project plans generally have this requirement listed and provide much detail regarding the expectations of how this service is to be performed. Some of the required details include having information such as the date, project name, direction of travel and viewing position to be imbedded onto the video screen.
Stationing that corresponds to the contract drawings is also required for many projects. These points are called stations and are designated by a number such as 375+00. Having these numbers on the screen of the video make it easy for engineers and project managers to find a specific location on the video. Many Construction Video Documentation projects do not have stationing, or they may not have been created at the time of the pre construction video. In these instances physical items such as buildings, homes, bridges, trees and streets may be used to determine the location of where the video is being recorded as well as the direction of the shot and point of view.
The process of Pre Construction Video Documentation is performed with hand held cameras on gimbals for smooth clear video while the camera operator walking the job site provides a verbal narration of the conditions that are being recorded. Vehicle mounted cameras and drones are also used. Specifications in the project plans will often dictate how far from the ground the shot needs to be and also the speed of the vehicle during the recording.
Construction Video Documentation is performed prior to the start of construction (pre construction videos) and often at the end of construction (post construction videos). As the project moves along periodic, or progress video documentation or progress photo documentation is often times required. These are also referred to as Owner Directed Videos. A schedule may be set up to have video of the job site recorded monthly or as important phases of the project are completed.
